We’re thrilled to share that Brielle “Sunshine” Wallace has been selected to exhibit her painting Girl in Carriage at this year’s Newark Arts Festival (NAF2025) — a celebration of creativity, culture, and community that transforms the city of Newark into a living gallery.
The piece is currently on display at NJPAC’s Nico Kitchen + Bar, where it joins the works of an incredible group of artists:Amalia Mallard, Benjamin Saah III, Brielle Wallace, Carole Bailey, Charity Derby Akeiti, Cynthia Vaughn, Daniel Jenkins, Elaine Wladyga, Ellen June Wright, Gregg Banks, Joya Angola Thompson, Kaylee Daryl, Kenia Akridge, Manman Huang, Nicolette Alexandra Brito-Cruz, Sharon Dennise Davis, Sue Ellen Leys, and Sylvia Padilla.

Centering Joy at Newark Arts Festival
This year’s Newark Arts Festival embraces JOY as its guiding theme — a bold, creative force that sustains, uplifts, and sparks transformation. Artists were invited to explore how joy can be both personal and collective, quiet and revolutionary — a golden state of being that connects us to our shared humanity.
Girl in Carriage captures that essence with quiet grace. The oil-on-canvas painting, part of Sunshine’s ongoing Landscape Series, depicts a young girl resting peacefully amid lush summer fields — a moment of stillness, reflection, and renewal. Through this imagery, Sunshine transforms simpl

icity into transcendence, using nature as both muse and mirror for the soul.
“I wanted this work to feel like a pause — a moment of deep breath and gratitude,” Sunshine shares. “It’s about finding joy not in escape, but in reflection.”
